dram-politik türündeki filmde nâzım hikmet, 1941 yılında bursa hapishanesi’ne nakledilir.

’komünizm’ propagandası nedeniyle mahkûm olan şairin ünü içeride kulaktan kulağa, efsaneye dönüşür. mahkûmların portresini yapan nâzım’ın aklı yalnızca karısı piraye’dedir.

1945 yılında savaş bitmiştir ama hapishane müdürü, şaire hoşgörülü davrandığı gerekçesiyle, koltuğunu despot bir müdüre bırakmak zorunda kalır. kırbaçlı gardiyanlar nâzım’ın odasını basınca kıyamet kopar.

ekim 1948’de, dayı kızı münevver ziyaretine gelir. nâzım yeni bir sevdanın coşkusuna kapılır. iki aşk arasında bocalar, bir de üstüne münevver kocasından ayrılmayı erteleyince bunalıma girer. 10 yıldır hapistedir, artık tükenme noktasındadır.
